Renee Meyer Ernst was born in Busan, South Korea and adopted to the United States at the age of three months. Significantly influenced by her life as an adoptee, Renee’s personal work explores the notion of forming and expressing identity within cross-cultural contexts.
Renee completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from Iowa State University. She is currently an assistant professor of graphic design at St. Ambrose University, and runs her own freelance design & photography business under the alias “Design by Mee” and “Mee Photography” (derived from her Korean name, Ha Mee Ye). Outside of teaching, Renee actively engages in cultural studies and various aspects of digital art media, including experimental web design.
